( 32, rue Sous-le-Fort ) A donation from Institut de développement urbain du Québec for Québec City’s 400 th anniversary, Notre-Dame-des-Victoires on Place Royale was illuminated by the Commission. Dating to 1688, this is one of Québec City’s oldest churches, designed by numerous talented architects and artists. Illumination highlights its stained glass windows, bell tower, entryway beneath bull’s eye windows, and—in front of the church—the perimeter of Samuel de Champlain’s second home.
( 29 rue Notre-Dame ) The Fresque des Québécois covers one wall of the Soumande residence at Parc de La Cetière. This spectacular 420-square meter trompe-l’oeil was produced by the Commission and SODEC. It’s a visual history lesson on Québec City architecture, geography, fortifications, and staircases, shown against the backdrop of the seasons and their changing colors. Appearing in its lifelike windows are 15 historically significant Quebecers and scores of writers and artists.
